WHAT IS ERYTHEMA MULTIFORME?

Erythema Multiforme (EM) is an uncommon skin condition affecting the skin (including inside the mouth, vagina, or eyes).

It can occur at any age but most often in young adults ages 20 to 40.

The rash looks like targets or bullseyes.

They can blister, itch and be painful.

Lesions usually resolve after 1-2 weeks.  Severe cases may resolve only after 6 weeks.  Without treatment, sometimes lesions remain for even longer.

Recurrent erythema multiforme (REM) is defined as at least 2 cases of EM.
